The Men of Valor Program is designed for the Development of Young Men, focused on

LEADERSHIP * ACADEMICS * SOCIAL SKILLS

Leadership is the ability to guide, influence, and inspire others toward achieving a common goal. A good leader motivates others, adapts to challenges, and fosters teamwork, always working to serve the greater good rather than personal gain.  Academics refers to the structured pursuit of knowledge through study, learning, and intellectual development. Academic success demonstrates discipline, curiosity, and a commitment to personal and educational growth, which can open doors to future opportunities in higher education and careers.  Social skills are the abilities that enable individuals to interact effectively and respectfully with others. These skills are essential for successful leadership, collaboration, and community engagement.

Social skills are the abilities that enable individuals to interact effectively and respectfully with others. They include communication, active listening, empathy, teamwork, and conflict resolution. Strong social skills help build positive relationships, foster cooperation, and create supportive environments in both personal and professional settings. These skills are essential for successful leadership, collaboration, and community engagement.

The culmination of our MLK Leadership Series is our MLK Commemorative Luncheon.  Community leaders and organizations are recognized for their contributions to the community with the prestigious DRUM MAJOR AWARD! Categories are Scholarship (student), Civic Affairs, Social Justice, Community Service and Business.

Proceeds from this event provide college scholarships to local students, fund the Young Men of Distinction mentoring program and provide support to other educational initiatives of the Foundation.

In a commencement address given at Lincoln University on June 6, 1961, Dr. King used the question of American Dream as the subject of his speech. In that address Dr. King charged the graduating class and the audience not to be detached spectators, but involved participants and make contributions to the ongoing structure of our society toward the realization of the America dream.

So, we ask this question once again, “Are we Fulfilling the American Dream?” And how does the American dream apply as it relates to today’s political, economic, social, criminal justice reform and the current worlds challenges?

Belford V. Lawson Oratorical Contest

Each year the orators receive a different topic to craft their speeches around.  Winners are awarded scholarships and other prizes.
